Go for Baroque
Sunday 26th August at 2:30pm
The Baroque period from 1600-1750 was perceived at the time by critics as overly ornamental and exaggerated. Today however Baroque is a convenient catch all for one of the richest and most diverse periods in music. This new genre of music was a powerful tool of communication and could arouse the emotions like no other before it. The opera, oratorio and cantata came directly out of this new dramatic impulse.
So this concert is for all lovers of this intense, contrasting and rich style of music – works by Vivaldi, Durante and Purcell – will demonstrate the “spirit of Baroque” – an unwavering belief in the power of music to touch people’s lives.
