ABOUT US

The Central Coast Chorale, formerly known as The Gosford Chorale, was established in late 1992 when a small group of singers came together for a one-off concert performance with the then Gosford City Orchestra at a Christmas Concert at the Laycock Street Theatre.  The audience response to this small Chamber Choir was so positive that the conductor, Christopher Bowen (Conductor of the City Orchestra and Director of the Central Coast Conservatorium at the time) decided to form the Chorale as a permanent Chamber Choir with a commitment to presenting high quality performances on the Central Coast of great choral music by both the established masters and contemporary composers. Christopher later relocated to Sydney but has continued as Music Director for the Chorale. He has also been Music Director of the Sydney University Graduate Choir over the past 15 years.

The Chorale comprises approximately 40 singers, a number professionally trained and with solo experience.  Some members have furthered their careers and joined the chorus of Opera Australia while others perform regularly with the Sydney Philharmonia Choirs as well as the Sydney University Graduate Choir.  The Chorale has been performing on the Central Coast regularly since 1993.  The concerts are keenly looked forward to by a growing audience and over the years the Chorale has gained a strong following by lovers of fine choral music. The Chorale has produced four CDs “For the Beauty”,  “Botany Bay & Beyond”, “A Touch of Heaven” and “Reflections” which include a significant number of  original compositions by Christopher Bowen. CDs are available for sale at our concerts at a discounted price as well as at the Regional Gallery & Arts Centre in Webb Street, East Gosford.

The core of the Chorale’s activity is the three major concerts given annually usually in May, August and late November or early December. Owing to the lack of an established Performing Arts Centre on the Central Coast at the present time concerts are held at various venues. The Chorale performs regularly in the annual City of Sydney Christmas Concert in the Sydney Town Hall in collaboration with the Sydney University Graduate Choir, St John’s Uniting Church Choir, the Sydney Community College Choir and the Central Coast Children’s Choir with Jenny Bell as Music Director.

The Chorale welcomes new members in all sections.
Rehearsals are held each Wednesday evening commencing at 7.30pm
Gosford Primary School hall (entrance off Vaughan Street) Gosford
